FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOR MY FIRST TREATMENT?

For your first massage visit, expect to come 5-10 minutes early to fill out a health intake form. This way I am able to determine what type of massage will be best for you and to make sure there are no medical reasons to delay massage. After the intake is filled out, I will take you back to the massage room. This is where we will go over your intake form and determine your specific massage plan. I will then leave the room where you can undress to your comfortability level. Everything in the room is adjustable; from the music, table heat, to the pressure during the massage. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, please let me know I will accommodate your needs. Once the session is over, I will leave the room so you are able to get dressed. Afterwards come out of the massage room; we will discuss the session and schedule when would be best for your return.

WHAT DO I WEAR TO MY MASSAGE?

Whatever you choose to wear most likely won’t matter. You may prefer something easy to get on and off, but that is for your convenience. During the massage, you will be draped by a sheet and a blanket the entire time you are on the table.  If I need to do any type of abdominal massage, a large hand towel will be placed over the breast/chest area.

WHAT DO I TAKE OFF FOR THE MASSAGE?

Prior to starting your massage, I will have you undress to your comfortability level, most clients undress to their underwear, while some prefer to be completely undressed. If you are more comfortable leaving clothing on, I will work through them. Also, don’t worry about being too cold as I do have a heated table!

CAN I TALK DURING THE MASSAGE?

Yes! There are a surprising number of clients that have asked if it is ok for them to talk or ask questions throughout the massage. While it is important to focus on the massage and relax, some people feel more comfortable talking with their therapist during their massage. Your comfort is important and if you feel more comfortable talking during the massage that is fine by me!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME IN FOR A MASSAGE?

This varies from person to person, depending on how your body responds to massage and what works best for you! Sessions can range from once a year to once or twice a week. People with complicated or chronic conditions would benefit more so from frequent and consistent massage than someone in good health. I will look over your health intake during your first visit and will go over your goals to determine how often you should come in.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I TIP?

I do not expect tips but they are accepted. Generally, clients who choose to do so tip between 18-20% on the regular massage price.

WHAT ARE YOUR COVID-19 SAFETY POLICIES?

Essential Balance Massage Therapy is committed to keeping the community safe during these ever-changing times.

All clients will be required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth during their treatment session regardless of vaccine status, and I will be wearing a mask as well. All clients will need to fill out a COVID-19 screening and liability waiver prior to receiving their massage. Temperatures will also be taken prior to massage and any client with a temperature over 99.8 degrees will need to reschedule their appointment. The room will be deep cleaned prior to each new client's session, including table, bolster, face cradle, door handles, cabinet handles, stools and light switch. Fresh, clean linens will be applied to the table prior to each massage. Appointments will be scheduled with a 30-minute buffer in between to allow for sufficient cleaning as well as maintaining social distancing. Your safety is my #1 priority!
